Since August 2010, Simon has been the Head of Emergency Planning and Response for the British Red Cross. Simon and his team work with Government, Police, Fire, Ambulance, Local Authorities, Voluntary Sector partners and other agencies across the UK to ensure that the British Red Cross are able to provide the best support in an emergency. He also chairs the Voluntary Sector Civil Protection Forum (VSCPF).
Prior to this he spent over 30 years in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). Simon retired as Chief Superintendent, Head of MPS Emergency Preparedness at New Scotland Yard. This included business continuity, emergency planning, crisis management and cross business group coordination in both times of emergency and in planning. It also included the MPS strategic link with the London Resilience Team and London Resilience Partnership. During this time he also chaired the London Emergency Services Liaison Panel (LESLP).
